Born Free-Radicals is not art, it is a substitution for art, an inversion. It is not a memory or representation of art, but a mirror through which enters a Bizzaro universe. The content of the work is an overlay of the Periodic Table of Elements onto the movements of the art world—onto individual artworks and artists. t-shirts and limited edition prints will be available. It is doubtful if science as it is presently understood, will continue to exist in the future. At first, what seem an illogical or un-natural successor will, in time, transcend the observable and repeatable and ultimately repressive 'science of relativity'. What becomes imminent is something even less certain, a standard of measurement more akin to imagination, but defined in terms of mathematics.

The Periodic Table of Elements functions as a time machine. If the theory of the Big Bang is even remotely close to being true, then what we are looking at and experiencing, graphically as a chart of elements, can also be seen as a vehicle or expression of time.

I discovered what I thought of and experienced, as a representational source of systemizing archival categorization, was also a vehicle and expression of time... I resolved any lingering issues by determining my final set of corresponding variables, which were in this case, metaphors. Ancient greek knowledge of the elements consisted of four, earth, air, fire and water. we soon realized that they were wrong. And we are still realizing that there are a great many elements in our universe and some of them actually exist (or to be exact, they can be synthesized. you cant just step outside and kick over a stone and come up with a handful of Ununoctium (symbol Uuo, atomic number 118). Ununoctium is "highly unstable" having a half-life of 0.89 ms. it doesnt just decay, it "alpha decays". it may undergo spontaneous fission or undergo alpha decay into Ununbium or eka-mercury (282 Uub), which, ultimately, has the nasty characteristic of spontaneous fission. not easy to hold onto then, you see?

The element ununbium itself was first created/discovered in Darmstadt by fusing a zinc atom with a lead atom by accelerating zinc nuclei into a lead target in a heavy ion accelerator -- which, thought about in a certain light, is a really nasty thing to do to an unsuspecting particle!

Ununseptium symbol Uus, atomic number 117) does not presently exist. go figure. While on his recent safari into nether regions of the Academic Jungle, Mark, attempting the foolish yet sublime act of speaking his mind, faced a resulting cavalcade an embarrassing delay, ultimately became about a year of lost academic time. Whether it was a philosophy, stamina, boredom, or all three, he would attempt to revive an earlier incept, overlay the Periodic Table of Elements onto the movement of Art. After six-months of assimilation the results were somewhat unexpected, The Periodic Table of Elements is a time machine, I discovered what I thought of and experienced, as a representational source of systemizing archival categorization, was also a vehicle and expression of time... I resolved any lingering issues by determining my final set of corresponding variables, which were in this case, metaphors.²

Introduction

Ideas come and go. Just like the bio-organisms who entertain them, an idea is born, and then struggles to know its purpose before returning to the void. Perhaps, the best ideas are those, which are obsessively re-thought, re-worked, re-stated, re-evaluated, re-considered, re-shaped, and re-formulated into an original, if not identical, thought. The question arises: was this initial thought capable of an independent and viable existence before being altered? There apparently is no ready test to confirm or deny any such assertion. The data would be wholly impossible to gather, or to attach to any proof. Mathematically, the argument can be written a number of ways, yet essential, it is the equivalent of saying:

The world will end. Countries must assure their citizens safety. One countries safety destabilizes the other countries ability to provide safety.

If an original idea exists, but only after that idea is destroyed, does that idea exist before it is destroyed? Here we find the God equation: Can a God create a stone which God cannot move?

The system functions in logic, yet does not appear to be logical, yet what would seem illogical is more analogous to Plato¹s, Analogy of the Cave, which dictates a higher more complex functioning of reason that cannot be understood. The dilemma is now, not to solve the puzzle, but to define interpret any and all possible meaning a given set or system can afford.

Negative

Could this process of deconstruction and re-assimilation somehow be ultimately responsible for original thought? If so, could a deduction be made that thoughts may exist as independent unto themselves, located somewhere outside the body?

And further exhibiting a quantifiable unite of measure, subject to gravity and the laws of motion? These queries remain open-ended variables, reinforcing principles of uncertainty, maintaining resilience and resistance to change.

As terrestrial beings we are subject to the effects of gravity. There is no aspect this attachment does not profoundly impact. Everything we know is deeply connected to this all-pervasiveness; every sense of the ordinary is a conditioned response to the totality of this force. What goes up must come down, yet in defiance to this notion is every action, the laws of gravity remain intact and unbroken. We are not equals within this game; we are codependents, not participants. Our thoughts may leak out, into a primitive awareness or understanding, but our knowledge base is gathered in a collective experience of body, keeping us ground to a perspective of reality, both naive and sublime. As a species we seek transcendence, yet transcendence is rarely complete. We are left suspended between layers of reality, knowledge and the ability to discern between these levels of perception.
